Using Roblox UGC Validation Visualization in Studio

Streamline your creation process with the new UGC Validation Visualization tool in Roblox Studio, designed to help developers fix errors before.

UGC Validation Visualization

Creating high-quality avatar assets requires precision, and Roblox has introduced a new feature to help developers achieve that standard more efficiently، The UGC Validation Visualization tool is now available in Roblox Studio, allowing creators to identify and troubleshoot validation issues directly on their assets before they reach the Marketplace، This update is specifically designed to support Bodies, Heads, Layered Clothing, and Rigid Accessories, providing a clearer path to asset approval and platform consistency.

How to Access the UGC Validation Visualization Tool

The tool is integrated directly into the Studio environment, making it easy to incorporate into your existing creation workflow، To get started, open your project in Roblox Studio and navigate to the top toolbar، From there, select the Avatar tab, where you will find the UGC Validation Visualization tool option، Once enabled, select the specific asset or avatar model you wish to review in the Explorer window، The tool operates by running a background service that scans your asset and returns feedback in the form of errors and warnings، You can select specific messages within the tool to visualize where exactly these issues are occurring on your 3D model, allowing for much faster debugging compared to traditional trial-and-error methods.

Understanding Asset Quality and Validation

A primary goal of this update is to help creators maintain high technical standards for avatar assets، The system uses color-coded feedback to distinguish between different types of issues: validation errors are highlighted in red, indicating critical problems that need fixing, while warnings appear in yellow, suggesting opportunities for technical refinement، It is important to note that the Asset Quality metrics provided by this tool do not measure the aesthetic or stylistic quality of your work، Instead, the focus is entirely on technical reliability and structural integrity to ensure assets behave consistently across different experiences on the platform.

For UGC avatar bodies, the validation process evaluates four specific technical areas:

  • Attachment Placement: Ensures that critical joints and attachments, such as the neck, hips, and grip points, are oriented and positioned correctly.
  • Mesh Structure: Checks that body parts remain within defined limits regarding disconnected mesh components.
  • Geometry Integrity: Scans for problematic mesh issues, such as degenerate triangles or excessive triangle intersections that can cause rendering failures.
  • Vertex Similarity: Identifies clusters of closely spaced vertices that could cause performance or deformation issues.

Roblox recommends that all avatar bodies should be manifold—meaning each edge connects to exactly two faces—and watertight, with no holes or missing faces, with the exception of head assets.

Future Improvements to the Workflow

This release represents a significant advancement toward a more unified and supportive validation system for creators، As the Roblox Avatar Team continues to develop this tool, they plan to introduce additional capabilities, including support for animation validation and improved error surfacing through the Marketplace Creation Platform (MCP)، The ultimate goal is to offer automated options to fix common validation errors, further reducing the friction in the publishing process، By utilizing these tools early in your development cycle, you not only improve the reliability of your assets but also contribute to a more seamless experience for players using your content across the Roblox platform.
